The Annals of Clinical Hypertension provides a structured and fair process for manuscript withdrawal or retraction during the “in press” stage—this includes accepted articles not yet formally published. These guidelines are designed to uphold ethical standards and reflect consensus from academic and library communities regarding scholarly practice.

Withdrawal — Definitions & Scope

Withdrawal applies solely to “Articles in Press,” which are manuscripts accepted for publication but not yet officially published. These may be withdrawn due to errors, unintended duplicate submissions, or ethical violations including multiple submissions, false authorship claims, plagiarism, or fraudulent data use—if identified by the editors.

Withdrawal Conditions & Restrictions

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to another journal during the 21 working-day review period. If they fail to honor this, the withdrawal policy becomes inapplicable.

Withdrawal Timing Fee (USD)
Before plagiarism check $0
After plagiarism check, before peer review $349
After peer review $549
At final proof stage $749
Retraction vs. Withdrawal

Retractions may be warranted when serious ethical breaches are discovered—such as misleading authorship, plagiarism, data fraud, or redundant submissions. In such cases, rather than full removal, corrections may be issued. Retractions are guided by accepted norms from research and institutional bodies and involve consultation with reviewers and the editorial board.

Policy Context & Community Engagement

This withdrawal policy addresses common concerns and aligns with evolving academic and library best practices. The journal remains committed to periodically reviewing and refining this policy with input from the broader scholarly community.
