The Annals of Clinical Hypertension welcomes submissions from researchers, clinicians, and academicians worldwide, focusing on all aspects of hypertension and cardiovascular research. To maintain uniformity, quality, and transparency, we provide detailed Author Guidelines that outline expectations for manuscript preparation, submission, and ethical compliance. By following these guidelines carefully, authors can help ensure a smooth review process and contribute to the clarity and accessibility of their published work.

Scope of the Journal

We publish a broad spectrum of article types including original research, clinical trials, case reports, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, perspectives, editorials, and brief communications. Submissions should directly relate to clinical hypertension or associated cardiovascular conditions. Interdisciplinary studies linking hypertension with nephrology, endocrinology, neurology, or public health are also encouraged. Manuscripts that are outside the journal’s scope will not proceed beyond initial editorial screening.

General Formatting Requirements

  • Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX) format.

  • Text should be double-spaced with 1-inch margins on all sides and use 12-point Times New Roman font.

  • Pages should be numbered consecutively, starting with the title page.

  • Line numbers are encouraged to facilitate peer review comments.

Structure of Manuscripts

All manuscripts must follow a standard structure to ensure clarity and uniformity:

  1. Title Page: Includes the title of the manuscript, a short running title (max 50 characters), author names, institutional affiliations, corresponding author’s contact details (email, phone, postal address), and acknowledgments of funding or support.

  2. Abstract: A structured abstract of up to 300 words, divided into Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. For case reports, a brief unstructured abstract is permitted.

  3. Keywords: 4–6 keywords should be provided, selected from Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) where possible.

  4. Introduction: Briefly state the research question, background context, and objectives of the study.

  5. Methods: Provide detailed methodology including study design, participants, interventions, outcomes, statistical analyses, and ethical approvals. Methods must be replicable.

  6. Results: Present findings clearly with appropriate use of tables and figures. Avoid redundancy between text and visuals.

  7. Discussion: Interpret findings, relate them to existing literature, discuss strengths and limitations, and outline clinical implications.

  8. Conclusion: Summarize the major findings and relevance for clinical practice or future research.

  9. References: Must follow Vancouver style (numbered in the text, listed in numerical order). Journal names should be abbreviated according to PubMed/MEDLINE standards.

  10. Figures and Tables: Each must be cited in the text, labeled clearly, and accompanied by descriptive legends. Figures must be submitted in high-resolution (JPEG/TIFF, minimum 300 dpi).

  11. Supplementary Material: Authors may submit datasets, additional tables, or multimedia files as supplementary materials to support transparency and reproducibility.

Language and Style

Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English. Authors for whom English is not their first language are strongly encouraged to seek professional editing assistance prior to submission. Non-discriminatory and inclusive language should be used throughout. Medical terminology should adhere to international standards.

Ethical Compliance Statements

  • All studies involving human participants must include a statement of informed consent and institutional review board approval.

  • Animal studies must include approval details from an institutional animal care committee.

  • Clinical trial submissions must include registration numbers and follow CONSORT guidelines.

Conflict of Interest and Funding Disclosure

Authors must disclose all financial and non-financial conflicts of interest. Sources of funding, institutional support, or grants must be acknowledged. Where no conflicts or funding exist, this must be explicitly stated.

Article Types and Length Limits

Article Type Abstract Word Limit Figures/Tables References
Original Research Structured 3500–5000 Up to 8 Up to 50
Systematic Review/Meta-analysis Structured 4000–6000 Up to 10 Up to 100
Case Report Unstructured 1500–2000 Up to 4 Up to 20
Editorial/Commentary Not required 1200–1500 Optional Up to 15

Figures, Tables, and Supplementary Files

Figures should be submitted in TIFF or JPEG (minimum 300 dpi) and tables must be editable (not embedded images). Legends must be descriptive and abbreviations explained. Supplementary files may include datasets, additional graphs, or videos, which will be published online alongside the article.

Preprint and Prior Dissemination

Authors are permitted to post preprints of their manuscripts on recognized preprint servers prior to submission, provided they disclose this at submission. However, manuscripts already published elsewhere are not eligible. The journal supports transparency in early dissemination while ensuring originality in final peer-reviewed publication.

Submission Process

Authors must submit manuscripts electronically via the journal’s submission portal or designated email. Submissions must include a cover letter highlighting the novelty of the research, confirmation of ethical compliance, conflict of interest disclosures, and author contribution statements. Failure to include these may delay processing.

After Submission

All manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening for scope, formatting, and plagiarism. Those that meet basic standards are forwarded to peer review. Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts based on editorial checks even before peer review. Once accepted, manuscripts proceed to production, copyediting, typesetting, and eventual online publication.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are expected to engage constructively throughout the submission and review process. This includes responding to reviewer comments in a timely manner, revising manuscripts thoughtfully, and maintaining ethical standards in all aspects of reporting. Authors must not submit to multiple journals simultaneously and must alert the editorial office to any errors or concerns identified post-submission.
